Award Coverage and Payroll Audit
Overview
When a National Group Training Organisation engaged Mapien for a Payroll Audit, our team identified a crucial first step, ensuring Award coverage was correctly determined for Trainees and Apprentices. By starting with a tailored Award Coverage Audit, we uncovered key process gaps and helped the client build a stronger foundation for compliance. The result was improved systems, empowered teams, and a more accurate payroll process.

The Challenge
A National Group Training Organisation approached Mapien seeking assistance to undertake a Payroll Audit.
Understanding that to pay Trainees & Apprentices correctly, you must first identify the appropriate Award for each Trainee and Apprentice, Mapien proposed to the client we go back one step. This suggestion involved an Award Coverage Audit of existing employees take place first, prior to commencing a Payroll Audit.
The Solution
Through the Award Coverage Audit, Mapien identified several deficiencies in the process being used to determine Award coverage for existing Trainees and Apprentices.
Designing a process unique to the client’s needs, Mapien identified these deficiencies by initiating a Trainee & Apprentice Placement Survey, and examining Training Agreements and Training Plans.
The Outcome
The improved process for determining the correct Award coverage led to more accurate decisions going forward, supported by upgraded systems and increased client capability.
Mapien then undertook a comprehensive Payroll Audit and found further opportunities for improvements in the client’s payroll operations.
